NORDIC PRAIRIE LIFE

Scandinavian history, culture and life on the Canadian Prairies

Nordic Prairie Life is an independent digital publication exploring the connections between Scandinavia and the Canadian Prairies.

Founded and edited by Shara Cooper, the publication combines historical research, cultural journalism and personal writing to examine Scandinavian migration to Western Canada and the communities, foodways, traditions and relationships with place that followed.

Its coverage ranges from the history of Icelandic, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish and Danish settlement to contemporary Nordic ideas about outdoor life, community, food and home. A major long-form project traces Scandinavian migration to the Canadian Prairies through archival records, historical scholarship and primary sources.
