Writer, journalist, essayist, & editor
My life revolves around putting words into meaningful order. As an active essayist and journalist, I focus on the deep architecture of creative non-fiction—whether I am uncovering regional history for community news outlets, unearthing forgotten food heritage for Nordic Prairie Life, or diving into my own family mysteries for my upcoming memoir.
Because I am deeply embedded in the daily trenches of writing and submitting my own work to literary journals and national outlets like the Toronto Star, I bring a rare, insider empathy to the editing table. I know exactly how vulnerable it feels to shape a deeply personal manuscript, and I know exactly what it takes to get a piece publish-ready.
Academic & Professional Foundation
My narrative approach is backed by over two decades of rigorous training across journalism, creative writing, and instructional design. I hold a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from the University of King's College, a Master of Arts in Creative Writing (Distinction) from Kingston University, and degrees and certificates in Journalism, English, and Professional Editing Standards from Kwantlen, Thompson Rivers, and Queen's University. This breadth allows me to bring absolute technical precision and artistic insight to every project I touch.
From the Desktop to the Prairie
Based in Edmonton, Alberta, I divide my time between editing manuscripts, submitting new essays, and baking sourdough historical recipes for Nordic Prairie Life. Pull up a chair and follow along with my latest writing journey below.
